The Washington Island Women’s club meeting was held January 19, 2010 at Trinity Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall at 1:00 pm with 24 ladies attending.

President Linda Hansen called the business meeting to order. The ways and Means committee presented their recommendations for the annual funding to organizations this year. The recommendations were discussed and approved.

Cindra Hokkenan read a thank-you from Feed my People for the food and cash that was donated in December. It was mentioned that they also have a retail Thrift store on-site that can always use donations. If you are looking for a bargain or need to get rid of some usable stuff stop by. Since their hours are limited, call and see if they are open before you go down.

The quilt squares for the annual quilt drawing have been distributed and the members were reminded that they need to be done by April so the quilt can be put together.

After the meeting, the members were treated to a dessert buffet. The table was lovely and the many desserts were delicious. Patty Nikolai catered the event, and she featured Danish pastries, cakes and cookies. Patty and her husband Tom are the owners of a new Island business, The Danish Mill Bakery and Sandwich Shop, open for business this spring 2010.

Following the desserts, the members spent the rest of the afternoon socializing and making Valentine’s Day cards for the residents of Scand.
