Island Teachers Receive Gift from The Walmart Foundation

Gifts For Teachers
Pictured are the teachers of the Washington Island School District holding the Walmart Gift Cards presented to them by representatives from The Walmart Foundation. Teachers were surprised Friday morning as each received $100 gift cards from the Walmart Foundation. Gift cards will be used to purchase materials and resources for their classes.
Across the country last year, it’s estimated that teachers spent more than $1.33 billion out-of-pocket to pay for their own school supplies.
In its third year, the Teacher Rewards program is an extension of Walmart’s ongoing support of education and local community involvement. In 2010, Walmart and its Foundation gave more than $89 million to fund educational, health and children’s programs to help students in communities across the country to better prepare for the future.
