Washington Island’s Newspaper

The Washington Island Observer has all the local news that’s fit to print. Ongoing columns include:
• “Nature New From Little Lake” by Marilyn Gau, who lives close by this beautiful inland body of water.
• “Adventures in the Archives,” by the Island’s archivist, Barbara Ellefson.
• “Washington Island: Through the Years,” by Hannes Andersen, with a focus on residents’ “remembered Island history.”
The Island newspaper covers all Island activities — past, current, upcoming. Frequent subjects include the Island theatre group, local visual artists and their current work, various festivals, and occasional features and profiles about Island residents.
There’s a photo fun page, a Kiddie Korner section, and an entertainment section with crossword, trivia, cartoons, and reviews of movies recently released on video — yes, there’s a video rental shop on the Island!
The Observer is currently offering a trial subscription — six months for only $15. For a subscription form, see link at the bottom of this page.
Go ahead: try the Island by way of the Washington Island Observer, then come to see us in person. The ferry trip is an adventure by itself…but experience the Island for a time capsule version of an unchanged and unchanging Door County from decades past!
